Research
Research
The Minnesota PKU Foundation is pooling our research energy with the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA). The NPKUA is proud to announce that it has agreed to fund several research projects for 2010 including a research fellowship. Information on the research that the NPKUA and Minnesota PKU Foundation is involved in can be found at the NPKUA site: http://www.npkua.org/index.php/pku-research-overview.
Kuvan
Research into new treatments, devices, and possible cures is ongoing. In 2008 a prescription drug, Kuvan was approved for the treatment of PKU. This drug was developed and released by Biomarin.
PEG-PAL
Biomarin is also researching PEG-PAL for PKU to treat severe (or classic) PKU, if successful this product may be available in time.
GMP
Whey based protein safe for PKU diet: This development is being worked on by our neighbors to the east at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Read more about the developments and new foods being developed using it by Cambrooke Foods at Science Daily.
